STOP STEALING MY NINJA!

Saturday, March 31, 2007

I was gonna put up a picture of my ninja here. But it seems everyone is STEALING it for some personal use. which SHOULDN'T be the case. so no cute ninja picture on blog. Reference to cute ninja © by me.

Anyway IVP:
SMU Blue
SMU White
NTU/NIE (those bloody PE teachers run too fast)
DARIO ARRIVED!
<-insert torrential rain here->
Finals with powerhouse NYP
<-insert torrential rain here->
Was blinded in the rain. One point I was chasing down Connie the black shadow.
We WON 13-11 I think.
It was close but we made it!
I think junyi, victor, weilang and dario really helped the team. Some amazing play from NYP team... layouts and everything. NIE played something called the german offense... strange thing... Charis said I am getting better one handed catches. But thats not the point. I think I still need to work A LOT on my in cuts. Caught a couple in the end zone and very very few as a mid. But better than league! I really don't understand why i cant play in league

I hate post-SengKang laundry. I spent half an hour rinsing my shoes and socks and scrubbing mud off my white shirt. Not mention my cleats are DYING.... AGAIN! the cloth on the inside of the shoes are totally coming out and I can't like stuff it back in. I don't wanna have to buy new cleats again. *hint hint* sports apparel vouchers would be appreciated on my birthday *hint hint*

I NEED SLEEP BADLY

Good Afternoon,

Thursday, March 29, 2007

the weather report for today is nice and sunny in the morning and torrential rain by the afternoon. Be sure to wear your gum boots or your feel will get wet in the numerous puddles that are representative of the bad flooring present at NUS.

Waiting for lecture to start now, the ideal time to start blogging. Had to finish a really last minute paper last night (its actually due at 6pm today) and i ended up sleeping at 5.30am. I think the time i conked out was actually later coz I kept thinking of the paper and tossed and turned around. Woke up at 8am feeling really woozy and so wanted to puke but still made it to school at 10am. I officially have at least one whole day of sleep debt to recover but I probably don't have time for it.

Banana Amanda: don't fret over terms. I screwed both my terms with like what 3 Fs each time? Terms are designed to kill and slaughter. And if you dont want the archery course I don't mind going for you =P haha. Oh just go try out FS. No harm trying. Like clothes. You can try before you buy.

Handler: Avarkaliel » Hucks:

this sucks.honestly it does.

i need help.

i should go for fs training right?

and mum just asked me to go for archery with my brother. she'll pay for everything. and they're saying that im gona go away next year so i shld spent quality time. but should i?

somebody help me?

im feeling shitty cause i did poorly for terms too! U-ed econs. that sucks.):

i see everyone's update on the league finals. and so i shall put my thoughts down to word too. saving the best update for the last. i know i know. so here i am. think this post might be a little long and emo-ish since im in that mood. and after i shall read up more on the evolutions of the united nations system, third edition. so exciting.

so league finals. what can i say. i woke up at freaking 6am in the morning, half dead (like always) and headed down to sengkang fields. missing my bus which meant i got there late. but anyhow. after 10 weeks with joyce and jac, early means early, on time means early, late prolly means on time. got our coolio vagimight jerseys. no one else had it k! did abit of warm-ups and stuff.

so like everyone else has said, the first match was definitely not one of our finest. we could have done alot better, could have even won but hey, it was 830 in the morning. and it wasnt like our team didnt pick up from there right!

second match against the shaken martinis, thats our dear little friend, charis's team. we played alright. picked up. made better cuts and managed to fight till the end, beating them by 1 or 2 points. i still blame the early morning but i guess we did alright for the match.

third match. exciting like hell i think. though when ure playing it right you kinda wana die. the vagimights gave in their bestest performance ever. i dont think i scored the first goal though. i dont remember but does it matter. i guess everyone played well though i wouldnt say i did. the last point was the worst. i thought i was gona puke and die of an asthma attack or smth. but we scored. from a pathetic 3-0, 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, 4-4, 5-4, 5-5 till at last we got it 6-5. how exciting is that. how gay is that. we won! haha. layout by jiamin was exciting.sighs. i wish i cld do it too!

so then we slacked abit. kena prep talk abit. watch the guy's matches abit and sat around and lazed abit. i must say the pears (which su li seemed to be addicted to) and green tea and yucky muddy grass field and loads of water and basically just talking crap made the whole thing memorable. and lying on yeling's leg. its damn comfortable la. and i sound damn wrong. haha. my teammates are funny. i like them. (:

we didnt get drawn into the finals cause of the stupid point system. but we played against shaken martini's anyway. and we won. so we came in 3rd. 3rd is not bad. 3rd is good. great thing was we won, in our hearts we knew it. so after we went to catch the guy's finals which were extremely exciting. team bondage vs sausage fest. bondage rocks la. and there was bk and beer. i had my 2 cups of beer. yay!

so i went home. fell asleep and then made my way to the party at red dot design musuem. pub called skin. pretty cool with bit of music, football and cosy cushiony sofas. quite a good place to just chill and hang out with friends. talked to our team mates in our own cosy cubicles and i managed to get coupons. so much for it being 2 free alcoholic drinks. i managed to get like bout 10 coupons and therefore you can tell how many i had to drink. heh. not bad right. everybody left one by one. so sad. i hope i see everyone again soon!

suppered at maxwell foodcourt, puked abit and then headed home and totally fell asleep. too much alcohol. bad for body.

thank yous to choi and ra and how we managed to hit off pretty well on the first day of league. i was like some loner la. dont know anyone except su li but shes an exception.thanks for the times guys!(:
the team rocks:
jac and joyce.
su li,yeling,jiamin,taitti,nat,carrie,slyvia, steph, chris,tai xiang!

do we ever get our team photo! cause i want it!(:

im too lazy to talk bout league finals anymore even though ive alot to say. so another post for another time another day.

goodnight.
here i come, un!

a long post

league finals yesterday. 4 intense games, and vm fought for every single one.
lying third in the table meant we would have to win 2 out of 3 games-- the last one against the undefeated (for 8 weeks running) women's league champs.

first game was bad. getting up at 6am doesn't do much for anyone's mood anyway. tempers frayed and words were exchanged. lost by 3? points.

second game was against charis' team, and we finally got into our stride-- good passes and good cutting. beat them pretty comfortably by 2 points. sideline support meant we didn't make bad moves, and i think we woke up a hell lot after the shock loss of the first game.

it came down to the third round-robin game.. lose and we played the consolation 3rd/4th placing. win, and we moved on to play for the championship. the one-hour delay to the final, crucial match against the table-topping champs, double c7, was nerve-wracking. lots of sipping of green tea, water, and aimless playing with mud.

1145am: game on. double c7 with 5 experienced ultimate players (freakshow, shiok) and fielding their best lineup.

we got pummeled the first 10 minutes with long points that pushed our stamina to the breaking point-- frustration abounded, especially for me (a designated deep runner who can't run, in jac's words, screws the team. no fitness. no fitness. no fitness.) two throws swung all the way down, with me running and laying out in frustration, and another one with the "up" call, which featured me running uselessly in front of the disc, scanning the skies for nothing as the disc flopped gut-wrenchingly to the ground. the last layout was particularly infuriating-- i ran so hard and my marker wasn't even close-- and as i dived to the ground the disc fell agonisingly-close to me. i felt like stamping on the goddamn disc. shit.

then the psychological barrier broke when we scored against them for the first time (did amanda catch that one?). after that, we had hope. and that hope was enough for us to play hard, play slow, and play carefully. we managed to work our way up to a tie at 5-5 in a game that ended at 11 points. and we held it so long that we hit our time cap, and we played a universal point.

that last point lasted ten minutes. the lineup had been on the field for the past ten. anyone who's ever watched a game of ultimate would know how dog tired everyone must have been at that point in time. we dropped the disc within 5 metres of our endzone at least 3 times, and each time VM switched quickly to defense, forced them to make stupid passes, and moved the disc upfield. and after ten grueling minutes, when carrie laid out beautfully for that last, game-deciding point, thumb and finger grasping an inverted disc millimetres from both the end marker cone and the muddy, weedy, stony field-- roars of joy and stupid grins all round. back-slapping. tears, almost ( the latter also apparently true for double c7)

kudos to the heroes who held the VM line for that universal point-- quite obviously i wasn't one of them-- you played damn bloody well. that was the best game in the league. VM was the first to beat double c7 in all 10 weeks of play (lady vesper, who we lost to, would then go on to beat them in the finals.)

we missed out on the finals due to point difference, but i don't think anyone in VM was upset at all. we played our hearts out.

last game was again against charis' team, the shaken martinis. we drank 'em for lunch. 3rd-- not too bad.

of course the free flow of beer (brewerkz pale ale!) definitely helped assuage the injustice of losing-via-statistics, as we all sat roasting in the afternoon sun and watching the guy's finals-- drunkenness ahoy! awesome play, insanely-great forehands, unbelievable jumps and Ds... their level of play really has to be seen to be believed.

quotable quotes:
"when i'm on the field, i don't recognise mother, father, sister, brother, or friend. that's who i am."

"frankly speaking, third and fourth placing means nothing to me."

after double c7:
"girls, i don't care what the results are. that was the best game of league i've seen."

i went home and showered and found scratches all down my right side (arm, ribs, leg) from that last, excruciating, missed layout. but i'm happy they're there: they remind me that i tried my best, played my hardest, dared to try it, and had fun. just like everyone in VM.

VAGI VAGI VAGI MIGHT!!!

CRUCIAL NOTE: all events are delivered through the rose-tinted glasses of poor memory and nostalgia (yes i tend to develop warm fuzzy feelings for "the past" rather quickly-- that tends to happen when your long-term memory extends to the misty epochs of one-month-ago.) so don't murder me if some of the details are wrong. feel free to correct and modify as you wish.

choy: don't be so upset... give yourself time. you'll improve eventually. you put in the effort.

amanda: you gotta teach me how to cut and move... i think you caught the most discs in the endzone that day besides like suli, carrie, jac and joyce.

pam: who knows! i may head down in april to dive the great barrier reef! if i don't have to retake my papers. haha.

STUDY HARD EVERYONE. SEE YOU GUYS SOON.

Handler: ra » Hucks:

sounds fun

ah, wish i were there for the league final game and party! grr.

its officially autumn here, and we've returned one hour (same as singapore now)

anyway. i thought it'd be tomorrow (tonight) so this morning i woke up 1 HOUR earlier to go for rugby. and i was there in the dining hall with my friend waiting like an idiot. but its just as well anyway cos my friend took the ENTIRE hour to eat breakfast.

we had a formal dinner last night. it was fun but quite prom-ish. then everyone (who has a life) went out and got steaming drunk. so obviously at today's rugby everyone was just like dying halfway and totally lacking in stamina. but we did quite well =)

i hope i get to play tomorrow. it'll be 8 degrees at night i think. yikes. class ends early (its not my week for psych) so hopefully i can rush down from the QE2 place to the oval where we play =) quite looking forward to it.

okay i am super tired. and i have backlogged work and fresh work and studying to do.

btw, i am no longer coming back in april (easter hols) my parents are coming up instead cos they figured i wont get much work done if i go home (which is so true). ohwell i'll miss you all =(

bakkwa: all the best for your finals! finish your love story with microB on a good note.
veggie: good luck for your exams too! and hope yr application for exchange goes thru
banana: study hard and play good frisbee! terms just finished right, so just take a break and get good rest!
xi: rest that ankle!! and hopefully you're recover soon =)

p/s could someone (xi, bakkwa or veggie) please check out the price of a model skeleton for me at the NUS co-op? i really need one to study. haha.

And they lived happily ever after...

Saturday, March 24, 2007

or did they??

Okay so this the ending of the Winter League fairy-tale.

We started off bad. Like BOOOOO bad coz we were all slow sleepy and just not there. Tempers flared a bit and we got pretty frustrated which made it worst. And I still didn't perform.

Then we had a slight rest when we drank up martinis. People started to move and get more motivated. And I still didn't perform.

Last game: the deciding one. So we fought back and we managed to win! Marvelous play from all the people on the field. Especially the nerve chilling universal point. But they managed to keep their cool and triumphed! not mention we reduced some of the C7s to tears And I still didn't perform.

3/4th placing game was the same as the 2nd game. I did 2 really bad pulls. So after that I gave up pulling to not risk Jac/Joyce's wrath. I sort of forgot what went on at this game. And I still didn't perform.

I can't be bothered to describe. So cutting long story short. Went home, showered, league party, drank very very the little, banana got tipsy, banana puked, I felt bloated, went home, showered again, went to bed, tried to sleep, couldn't sleep!, woke up. Thats all. The end!

Sort of bored now. I guess its the tiredness. League rocks. But I gotta get my act together. I can't wait till exams end.

anyhow, wait till you hear from me again.
i is going to try to study now.

amanda has left blogger.
oh wait.
p.s. did i mention all other papers were pretty bad. SIGHS.

hallo all.

training was icks- i sprained my ankle getting up from tying my shoelace-- wtf! and now i cant sprint or change direction quickly, and my ankle aches too, in the same spot as veg's. but my throws got better! thanks to victor tak. and i only ran 8 rounds cos of the ankle-- boo.

i can't find my red frisbee. i hope i haven't lost it. boo.

Handler: ra » Hucks:

Baby steps

1st training: 15 rounds around small field
2nd training: 6 rounds around big field
3rd training: 10 rounds around track

So much of slowly building up training to a killer standard.
Well, managed to finish them. But not without quite a considerable bit of pain from my arch. Podiatrist Pam! help me!

I landed quite heavily from a jump during training. Maybe i jumped higher than usual i don't really know. But the ?ligament? which runs in front of your ankle bone feels weird when i rotate my ankle. Not that it stops me from playing. But i should be careful. Me no want no sprained ankle again.

And while i was throwing forehand the strangest thing happen. i flicked and suddenly my 1st 3 fingers had major pins and needles. And i heard a pop. And that is REALLY scary. 肉乾‘s prognosis on it was that i accidentally squished a nerve? I just hope it doesn't happen again thats all.

Now i am too tired to do work.

There goes my affinity with my notes. Its like a frisbee stuck on the roof. Won't come back down to me.

run!! run!! run!!

Friday, March 16, 2007

i ran!!! yay =)

i had this annoying anat dissecting lab just now.. where all the locals know the names of the bones and sutures and plates and all, and i dont (they do human bio at year12) so they finished the lab in 1/2 hr and left... and i stayed til almost the end of lab to go thru everything again.

so i got back all hot and flustered and all and decided to go run. and hopefully see dolphins. ok. i ran, but didnt see dolphins, so 1/2 mission accomplished.

must run more, then have more chances of seeing dolphins in the bay.. and when i do see them, i think i'll just like go into the water or something. hmmm. but shouldnt lah. should just leave them to their own environment. haha.

okay i'm back and hopefully those endorphins and all have been released and i'm all good to go and work (i hope) large pile of work to catch up on, and readings to do too. shucks.

run. or play frisbee. work on fitness.

mug. embryology. circulatory system. human movement. everything.

ah i am going maddddd

btw veggie you have a low PROPENSITY TO WORK. me too actually.

i sure hope i have affinity for my work. its like an arranged marriage i think.

my finals are in 3.5 weeks' time.

brucella species causes abortion in several cattle species and commonly in poorer developing nations. not to be confused with:

bordetella pertussis, or parapertussis, both of which cause whooping cough, and are immunised for at birth as part of the DPT trivalent vaccine. as with most activated vaccines, it may cause fever and rash at site of injections, which may be mistaken for:

bartonella species
which causes catbite fever and bacillary peliosis in the immunocompromised. which sounds very much like

borrellia recurrentis (which causes epidemic relapsing fever and is spread by the body louse), duttoni (congenital relapsing fever) and burgdorferi (lyme disease, spread by hard ticks). common in the homeless or in times of social upheaval, when personal hygiene is generally poor.

burkholderia pseudomallei causes meliodosis, another common disease of the immunocompromised. closely related to burkholderia mallei, which doesn't infect humans at all. these are endemic in singapore and common in diabetes mellitus patients and construction workers. another common disease among construction workers is (i just like the names very very much...)

orientalis tsutsugamushi, which is spread by the chigger, a rat flea, and is responsible for scrub typhus.

of course all organisms are identified by different means. brucella, a gram neg rod, grows well on salty blood agar, bartonella is a variable-staining but often gram negative rod, borrellia is unculturable on normal agar, burkholderia grows as large wrinkled grey colonies on enriched blood agar, and o tsutsugamushi doesn't stain at all. hoho.

this is 6 bacteria, which is maybe about 5% of 128 bacteria, which is 1/4 of 1 module. 1 module is equivalent to 1/6 of our course, this year. there are effectively 4 years of teaching.

10-90-90-10 rule: doctors only use 10% of what they're taught, 90% of the time. but 90% of the justification for our salaries is because of that last 10%...

i think i prefer the UN generals to bacteria. there are no anti-UN drugs to remember.. (maybe just one, bolton. haha)

by the way, i went shopping last night for food, files and clothes. had jap for dinner (yum) between the 3 of us we bought like 9-10 files. and when i got back it was pitch dark and cos we stay in sep halls we like called each other as we walked back so we could alert the police if one of us got mugged.

i wanna play frisbee
i wanna play frisbee
i wanna play frisbee.

can someone PLEASE invent a frisbee-inducing drug so i can pop it into the juice machine in the dining room so everyone will wanna play frisbee instead of football? thanks =)
